Faculty members at the University of North Texas (UNT) have the right to present a grievance related to reappointment, tenure, promotion (RTP), or a term or condition of employment to an academic administrator as set out in this policy.
The University of North Texas (UNT) is responsible for obtaining approval or informing external governing bodies of substantive university changes. Said external governing bodies include, but are not limited to the: (a) Department of Education, (b) Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), (c) Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), and (d) select discipline-specific accrediting bodies.
UNT is committed to the consistent and comprehensive review of tenured faculty members in the areas of teaching, scholarship, service, and administration.
UNT commits to recognizing and rewarding librarian faculty whose work demonstrates excellence in the areas of librarianship, scholarship, and service through the reappointment and promotion process. This policy provides the framework for the development and implementation of unit-level criteria, procedures, and communication processes that support reappointment and promotion.
UNT is committed to informing students of specific educational requirements and expectations for the courses in which they are enrolled through the development and delivery of a syllabus. Consistent with Policy 06.035, Academic Freedom and Academic Responsibility, UNT instructional faculty ensure that the content of their course syllabus contains the provisions necessary to be consistent with applicable state law and this course syllabus requirement policy.
In furtherance of its commitment to recruiting and retaining a highly qualified and diverse faculty in support of academic excellence, UNT uses a standardized process for making faculty appointments and for assigning titles across all units. All faculty appointments shall be made and titles assigned in accordance with this policy.

The University of North Texas (UNT) is committed to the consistent and equitable review of full-time faculty members. and academic administrators. Annual and reappointment reviews provide an assessment of the quality of a faculty member’s contributions in teaching, scholarship, and service and, and administration. Said reviews are used to determine merit, review of tenured faculty, administrator appointment decisions, and other purposes as required by unit/college guidelines or university policy.
