Time and Attendance/Leave Records

The University is under the jurisdiction of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and the Texas Government Code (TGC) and must comply with all the rules and regulations promulgated thereunder, including the requirement to maintain attendance and leave records on each employee. Department officials are encouraged to appoint departmental time clerks who will be responsible for time-keeping records for a specific unit, department, or subdivision.

Sick Leave

Regular faculty and staff members of the University of North Texas are entitled to a sick leave allowance as provided by the Texas Government Code. Sick leave provides each regular staff member with a leave allowance to cover periods of actual personal illness, and other circumstances as prescribed by law.

Privacy

The University of North Texas will inform individuals about information it collects about them, unless the information may be withheld pursuant to state or federal law. The University will provide individuals the opportunity to correct information collected about them in records maintained by the University.

The University of North Texas is committed to providing faculty, staff, students and visitors with an environment of respect and safety that encourages learning and productive employment and that is secure and free from threats, intimidation, and violence.

Staff Development/Performance Planning and Review

Staff performance evaluations are conducted to communicate and document the staff member’s overall performance during a review period, to provide regular feedback and coaching on performance, recognize meritorious performance, identify those areas needing improvement, set specific objectives for staff to support the achievement of goals consistent with the University of North Texas mission, and provide an opportunity to discuss career goals and the support needed to meet those goals.

Grievance

The University of North Texas (the “University”) encourages fostering positive and effective communications between its management and employees. The University is devoted to obtaining fair, efficient and equitable solutions for conflicts arising out of the employment relationship and is committed to prompt, fair, and equitable treatment of all employees. The University provides a formal, internal process for the good faith resolution of work-related grievances.

Supplemental Compensation

The University of North Texas provides faculty and staff the ability to receive supplemental pay for services performed in addition to or outside the scope of their regular assignment. This policy provides for the administration of supplemental pay and differential pay, in compliance with applicable state and federal law.
