The University of North Texas is committed to compliance with the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Employee Alcohol and Controlled Substances Testing requirements under the rules of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991.
A leave of absence without pay is an authorized, temporary release of a faculty or staff member from the payroll. Leaves of absence are granted either under the provisions of applicable federal or state laws or by the University at the discretion of the employing department to protect employment and certain benefit rights for a specific period of time.
This policy applies to any regular employee who is appointed to work at least twenty hours per week for a period of at least four and one-half continuous month. For purposes of this policy, regular faculty must be appointed for at least fifty percent time for at least four and one half continuous months.
The University of North Texas provides leaves of absence with pay for employees in specified circumstances. Certain specified leaves are not charged against an employee’s vacation, sick leave, or compensatory time accruals.
The University of North Texas (UNT) provides unpaid job-protected leave to eligible employees for family and medical reasons as required by the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
The University of North Texas ensures that staff employees are granted compensatory time or paid for overtime worked in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and the Texas Government Code.
The University of North Texas provides for a reasonable period of leave for new parents who are ineligible for leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
Through this policy UNT recognizes the benefits of supporting and promoting the health and well-being of employees, and provides a program allowing access to multiple well-being resources.
The purpose of this policy is to establish university policy for vacation leave for regular staff employees.
