Use of University Telecommunication and Personal Computing Devices

The University establishes the following  policy concerning: 1) the use of university telephones, telephone lines, fax machines, and  computers for electronic messages for reasons other than official university business, 2) the use of university-provided or employee wireless telephones, and 3)  the use of university-provided or employee-owned personal computing devices.

Electronic and Information Resources Accessibility

Acceptable Use

The University of North Texas provides Information Resources for employees, students and authorized individuals to use in conducting official University business and for other purposes as authorized in this policy.

Information Security

The University of North Texas (UNT) is committed to protecting the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information and information resources. This policy supports security, business continuity, risk management, compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and maximizes the ability of the University to meet its goals and objectives.

Risk Management Program

The University of North Texas manages enterprise and operational-level risks to promote a healthy and safe environment for students, employees, and the surrounding community; and to preserve the physical and financial assets of the institution by avoiding, preventing, reducing, controlling, transferring, and financing risks in a strategic and cost-effective manner.

Food Service and Safety

It is the policy of the University of North Texas (UNT or University) to comply with the Texas Department of State Health Services rules on food service sanitation. This policy outlines the University standards on preparing or handling food to prevent disease, protect health and promote safe food practices for food served on UNT property.

Radiation Safety

The University of North Texas (UNT) is committed to the proper receipt, possession, use and transfer of sources of radiation and lasers by UNT faculty, staff and students through the establishment of responsibilities that meet or exceed standards prescribed by federal and state regulations.

Biosafety

The University of North Texas  has established guidelines for the proper use of biohazardous agents, potentially hazardous human materials, and recombinant DNA molecules in research and other educational activities.

Insurance

Insurance is a risk financing technique basic for managing risk. The University of North Texas (UNT) purchases insurance to manage certain risk exposures to personnel and property.

Campus Closures

UNT is committed to the safety and security of the campus community and recognizes the value of maintaining university operations. However, in the event university operations are disrupted due to an emergency or other hazardous conditions threatening the safety, health, or welfare of the campus community, UNT may be required to cancel classes, suspend operations, or close campus in its entirety.
