Study Abroad

The University of North Texas will endeavor to provide out-of-country study opportunities for students in their academic degree programs. Faculty, staff, and students who participate in study abroad programs are responsible for complying with and are subject to all applicable laws and university policies.

Online Courseware Intellectual Property

The University of North Texas (UNT) encourages the development and use of high-quality online courseware, and safeguards the rights of authors and the University. This policy identifies the categories for ownership and licensure of online courseware; addresses the author’s responsibility for the creation, use, and revision of online courseware; and provides guidelines for administration that are compliant with federal and state laws, as well as applicable UNT policies.

Pre-Finals Days, Reading Day, and Final Examinations

So that students can more adequately prepare for final examinations, UNT sets aside days preceding final examinations during which no new material may be disseminated and extracurricular and organizational activities are suspended. The policy further stipulates that final examinations must be administered at the designated time of each long semester, wintermester, and summer term unless authorized under this policy.

Review and Approval of Online and Hybrid Courses and Programs

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has transferred the authority to approve electronically delivered undergraduate and Master’s level courses and degree programs to the university governing boards. This policy is intended to ensure high quality instruction, all programs the flexibility to compete in a highly competitive digital environment, encourage faculty to participate in distributed learning, and meet federal and state guidelines.

Academic Program Review and Discontinuation

The purpose of an academic program review is to improve and maintain robust, high quality academic programs and concentrations that are closely aligned with the UNT mission and strategic goals. Such improvement should occur through a review of departmental activities, identification of effective and ineffective activities, and identification of strategies for improvement of departmental outcomes.

Academic Workload

Faculty members at the University of North Texas have a variety of duties and responsibilities associated with the mission of the institution, including the essential functions of teaching, research/scholarship/creative activities, and professional service/leadership. Work in these areas constitutes the faculty member’s professional obligation to the University and must reflect a 100% time effort.

Graduate Faculty Membership

Graduate Faculty advance the research, teaching and professional development mission of the University of North Texas (UNT) through excellence in graduate education. The Graduate Faculty is composed of Full Members and Associate Members.  This policy describes the process and conditions for appointment to the Graduate Faculty at UNT.

Faculty Misconduct and Discipline

The University of North Texas (UNT) expects faculty to abide by the tenets of the UNT Policy 06.035 Academic Freedom and Academic Responsibility. Failure to follow faculty responsibilities as outlined in the Academic Freedom and Academic Responsibility Policy diminishes a faculty member’s capacity to effectively perform his or her teaching, research and creative activity, and service. Such failure ultimately impacts the ability of the university to carry out its mission. When a faculty member engages in inappropriate behavior or misconduct, the university may impose corrective actions.
