STATE EMPLOYEE ORGANIZATIONS MEMBERSHIP FEE DEDUCTION (1.5.6)

1. Purpose: To authorize a convenient method of paying membership fees to State employee organizations for University employees.

2. Policy: Senate Bill 3, 72nd Legislature, First Called Session, Article 3, empowers employees to authorize a payroll deduction for payment of membership fees in an eligible state employee organization, effective with the January 1992 pay period.

3. Provisions:

3.1 State Employee Organization: an association, union, or other organization that advocates the interests of state employees concerning grievances, compensation, hours of work, or other conditions or benefits of employment.

3.2 Organizations must file a written request for certification from the State Comptroller as an approved organization for membership fee deductions, and are charged an annual fee by the Comptroller's Office for participation.

3.3 All University employees, including part-time and temporary workers, are eligible to participate.

3.4 The employee must complete an application form issued by the organization and submit it directly to the organization.

3.5 No state agency or state employee organization may state or imply that a state employee is required to authorize a deduction.
