Research Misconduct

Conflict of Interest for Sponsored Projects

It is the policy of UNT that no proposed, awarded, or ongoing UNT research project shall be biased by a significant financial interest of any Investigator responsible for the design, conduct, or reporting of the research.   The purpose of this policy is to assure objectivity in research.

All UNT Investigators who apply for or receive funding from any entity for a research project will comply with the requirements of this policy and the UNT conflict of interest procedures for PHS funded research or non-PHS funded research, as applicable.    

Recovery and Distribution of Facilities and Administration Funds

This policy sets forth institutional requirements related to recovery and distribution of Facilities and Administration (F&A) funds.  UNT applies the federally negotiated F&A rates to all sponsored project grants and contracts, including projects involving federal, state, private and non-profit sponsors. In the event a sponsor limits or prohibits the full recovery of the federal F&A amounts; the institution will recover the allowable amount.

Award Management and Financial Administration for Sponsored Projects

This policy sets out requirements related to the award management of sponsored projects. Award management includes responsibility for financial management and oversight of grants and contracts. This policy addresses allowable/unallowable costs, the significant absence of a Principal Investigator, progress reporting to external sponsors, program income, and record-keeping related to a sponsored project.  Although federal regulations are referenced, for consistency this policy will apply to all UNT sponsored projects.

Research Intellectual Property

The purpose of this policy is: (1) to encourage the creation, development, and management of Intellectual Property including, patents, copyrights, trade secrets, know-how, and trademarks in the best interest of the public, the Creator(s), UNT, and the research sponsor(if any); (2) to provide for protection of Intellectual Property through patents, copyrights, trade secrets and trademarks; (3) to ensure that monetary and other benefits derived from Intellectual Property including patents, copyrights, trade secrets and trademarks are equitably distributed to the Creator(s), UNT and other part
